Canada has concluded that Vietnamese businesses are not dumping steel strapping and will not be subject to tariffs.
On the afternoon of December 16th, the Trade Remedies Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) announced that on December 15th, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) issued its final decision on the anti-dumping investigation into steel strapping imported from several countries, including Viet Nam.
For the only Vietnamese company exporting this product to Canada and involved in this case, the CBSA determined that no dumping practices existed regarding the steel strapping, and therefore no anti-dumping duties were imposed. For other Vietnamese companies, the duty rate is 25.3% based on available information.
However, the CBSA concluded that steel strapping from other exporters and countries was still being dumped (anti-dumping duty of up to 47.9%), and determined that goods originating from China were subsidized (subsidy duty of 0.44 CNY/KG). The case is still being reviewed by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) to determine the extent of damage to the domestic industry, with a decision expected before January 14, 2026.
Further details regarding these investigations are outlined in the Statement of Reasons, which is expected to be published within 15 days.
