Brazil Levies Antidumping Charges Against Mayor Float Glass Exporting Countries

On Friday 19th December, Brazil’s Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex), the federal government’s policy-making body for the sector, decided to levy definitive antidumping duties on float glass imports from six countries, including Arab countries Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Egypt. Publication was made by Brazilian Official Gazette.
Origin hereof was a held last July which was following by provisional antidumping charges to said imports. The runtime of the provisional charges was jut for six months, but the final ones now remain in effect for as long as five years. The antidumping duties are the result of an investigative process that had started in January 2013. Abividro, the Brazilian glass industry association, Associação Técnica Brasileira das Indústrias Automáticas de Vidro has submitted a petition in the names of two mayor glass makers of the country, Cebrace Cristal Plano and Guardian do Brasil Vidros Planos.
The glass types concerned by the ruling are clear float glass from 2mm to 19mm thick from the mentioned six countries. The product’s number under the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM) is 7005.29.00. Glass of this type is used in many fields of glass processing, especially for automotive industry, construction or furniture industry, as well as home appliances or vehicles.
The surcharges levied are as follows: US$ 202.26 per tonne for imports from Saudi Arabia, US$ 185.74 per tonne for imports from Egypt, and US$ 83.40 to 148.57 per tonne for imports from the UAE. Surcharges ranging from US$ 97.10 to US$ 392.55 are also in place for imports from the United States, Mexico and China.
Main suppliers of float glass Brazil in 2014 ave been China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Mexico, Turkey, the United States, Spain, Germany, Colombia and Egypt.
Imports went town harshly in 2014 compared to 2013 - highest concerned countries were Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, the United States and Mexico. China imports went down as well but not as strong.
