According to Vasep, 4,492 pounds of agricultures rooted from Asia has recently been seized and destroyed by Quarantine Office of Belize Agriculture Hygiene Agency (BAHA). This statement was launched after inspectors had proved that all these agriculture produces had not come from the US as mentioned in the importing license. They originated from some countries such as China, India, and Vietnam. The decision on confiscation and destroying was given by BAHA because Belize aquaculture industry took the risk of infecting epidemic from those products. They thought that there has not been an transparent report on epidemic situation of the aquatic products coming from above countries to powered international departments. There has not enough information of situation of some epidemic listed in the world and moreover, these countries knowledge of agriculture is limited.
In 2006, BAHA issued 6,257 licenses on food safety and animal health. The agency also seized and destroyed 106,000 pounds of high risk goods and refused 90,000 pounds of products because of “serious infection of pestilent insect”.
