HCMC - Australia’s Anti-Dumping Commission (ADC) has decided to initiate an anti-dumping investigation into quicklime imported from Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, according to the Vietnam Competition Authority.

ADC  has made the decision after Cockburn Cement Limited filed an anti-dumping lawsuit against quicklime imported from some countries into Australia as it claimed the product was sold at prices below fair market levels, causing significant injury for the industry in Australia. As a result, companies in the industry suffered from sharp falls of profit, sales volume, market share, jobs and production capacity.

Cockburn Cement claimed that quicklime imported from Vietnam was dumped with margins of 64.4-86.1%, while the percentage calculated by ADC was 18%, the second highest for the three countries.

The authority under the Ministry of Industry and Trade cited figures in the lawsuit profile as saying that in the 2014-2015 period, quicklime exports to Australia from Vietnam totaled 39,200 tons, accounting for about 33.9% of the total import of the product in Australia.

The authority also said the Department of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Production of Argentina has opened an anti-dumping probe into ceramic tiles imported from Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Brazil and China.
