The Commerce Ministry in India, following the completion of a preliminary enquiry has concluded and recommended imposition of provisional anti-dumping duty on import of Flax fabrics from China and Hong Kong. This decision was taken on a petition filed by Indian manufacturers of Flax fabrics, which included Jayshree Textiles and other manufacturers across India.
When it was proposed, the Trade & Industry Department of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administration (HKSARG) had objected to the proposal and rejected the allegations of the Indian Flax fabric manufacturers against levying of anti-dumping duty on exports from the administered area of Hong Kong.
In arriving at the conclusion, the relevant department in the Ministry of Commerce has observed that the volumes of imports are more than three percent and the margins are also above two percent in respect to imports from both the regions.
As per the recommendations, Flax fabric imported from China and Hong Kong in to India will be subject to anti-dumping duty for the difference between Rs 204.89 and Rs 205.52 per metre respectively and the landed value of the goods.
Flax fabric is woven fabric with 30 percent flax content and is also called linen fabric and is more so used in fabrics for home textiles like bed-sheets, towels, table cloth etc.
