The Indian government has taxed an additional duty of up to $63.84 on imports of every 1000 pieces of CD-R (compact disks-recordable) from the nations Malaysia, UAE, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea and Iran. The Indian Finance Ministry has declared in a notification that it will be enacting a toll ranging from $17.52 to $63.84 per 1000 pieces of CD-R.
The DGAD (Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties) had previously discovered that the discs were being imported from the aforementioned countries at below its usual value. Consequently, he had advocated the measure of the levy of anti-dumping duty on imports of these discs from these countries after having decided that “the domestic industry has suffered material injury” by the import.
The duty is to be levied from March 13, 2008, which is the date of imposition of the provisional anti-dumping duty, read the notification.
Previously, the government had levied anti-dumping duty on yarns, fabrics, colour televisions, some aluminium products and chemicals and several other articles. A recent WTO report states that India started the highest number of investigations against anti-dumping, 42 of them precisely, followed by Brazil and China between July and December.
